Iran film wins award in South Africa

Iranian short film ‘Lunch Time’ has won award at the 6th annual Jozi Film Festival in South Africa.

Directed by Alireza Ghasemi, the animation won the best student short film award in the international section of the 6th edition of the South African event.

‘Lunch Time’ has participated at 70 international film festivals approved by Oscar Academy Awards. It has also attended the competition section of Cannes Film Festival.

The 15-minute film is about a high school girl who attends a hospital to identify her mother's dead body. The people in charge at the hospital would not let her into the morgue because of her young age.

Launched in 2012, the Jozi Film Festival was initially created to provide a platform for local filmmakers, to reach audiences under serviced by traditional cinemas and to develop an audience for South African films.

The Johannesburg-based festival began accepting entries from around the world in 2014 and is now firmly established as one of the sub-continent's leading film festivals.

The festival was held on September 21-24, 2017 in the city of Johannesburg.
